Not really, that was part of the story line, but I'm talking about the focus on freestyle exploration, and the unique form of strategy that the game offers. While PW offered some of that, exploration was non-existant, and stragety wasnt anywhere near as micro-managed or detailed as it was in pikmin, which is part of what made it so fun.

I had this idea today.
What if we're a humanoid commander of unspecified species, the size of Hocotatians and go on the planet to find treasures?
We have a limit of 100 troops like in Pikmin and go back to the 5 main colors: red, blue, yellow, white and purple.
You can pick any species you want though, but have to stick with one.
For example, Player 1 could have Pikmins, Player 2 Dwarf Bulborbs, Player 3 Snitchbugs, Player 4 Crawmads, etc.
Of course if you pick something like Groinks or Wollywogs, they would be resized to be smaller.
In this example, Player 3 would have access to red snitchbugs, blue snitchbugs, yellow snitchbugs, white snitchbugs and purple snitchbugs.
The goal of the game would simply be to collect treasure and have the most money.
We could either create a day system where after 30 day a winner is declared and everyone's money reset or put a certain number of money we have to reach to win.

Of course, the real problem with a game were you just "Collect treasure", is that there's no real reason for anything to actually be done. The idea above that you made is great mal, I would like to expand in it though. But if we only collect treasure and fight creatures, theres no real room for any sort of growth on the players part.

Yeah, that's similar to what I was thinking. I like the "Only one species thing".
What if you can spend money to add a specific species to your army and expand the troops cap?
What if, instead of just treasures (Generalized as artifacts for convenience) we have different types of resources, or "Products", Treasures, or "Artifacts" being the most valuable. The person with the most output at the end wins. You won't actually build the structures or harvest resources, your "company" or whatever you work for does that. You just explore and conquer areas to exploit.
No bases either, anything you buy is dropped from orbit and troops are hired form the local population.
I still want to have in general a smaller amount of troops, and implement a system that doesn't rely so heavily on logs, and allows players to more closely control their troops... That's a bit hard in PVP though...
I really want to simplify everything this time to, while still having real substance to the game, and making it wholesome and intersting to play through the entire thing.

I guess it all depends. Are you guys still interested in a game with PvP competition, or do you want something else entirely?

There's a lot of different things we could do here... I guess it all depends. Are you guys still interested in a game with PvP competition, or do you want something else entirely? I personally prefer cooperative games, but as a fellow Game Master, I'm gonna say this: You seem to love joining your own games, so I'll suggest doing another PVP based game. I tried to hve a character when I did Paper Smash and the original MASTER and I was always like "What the hell makes my character different from the NPCs?". The Game Master having a character in a coop game just doesn't work, since he already knows everything going on, how to solve X puzzle, how to defeat X enemy, etc. So for the sake of you playing your own game, I highly suggest making it PVP.
