a sizable force marches through the quiet autumn forest. They have their orders, given the evening before. Just as the enemy base is seen, the army stops, still hidden by the trees. A large portion of the army turns back, and those who remain, 200 in all, split themselves up farther. They spread out, moving under the cover of the pre-dawn grey. About half of each small group begins digging a shallow pit, and the other half takes to the sky, too high to be seen. The pits are finished with minimal noise, and the groups climb in and bury themselves. A patrol nears a group, but they do not spring yet. Suddenly, another group spots a nice prize; a lone pikmin, driving a large truck, is patrolling. The 20 red pikmin spring from cover, SMGs firing continuously. Their assigned air-raid contingent comes down as well, brandishing axes that spark with electricity. But this is no ordinary pikmin; this is Mad Max, and though taken by surprise, he recovers quickly and punches a button on his dashboard. Immediately, a klaxon begins blaring. He takes a shot with his shotgun, killing or wounding several of the SMG firing squad, then he wheels the truck around and fires a harpoon, which, while designed to catch vehicles, does a fair job of impaling pikmin. Max is lining up to run over the assaulting pikmin when his truck is swarmed by flying green pikmin. Their electrified axes don't do much to the truck's body, but it's electronics are shut down, and it grinds to a halt. Max curses loudly.
Losses (so far): Imperial Army: 10 Assault Troopers
Elemental Spiders: Drag Truck (out of commission for this battle) undetermined wounds to Mad Max (because his situation will likely get much worse.)
(first part down; send in countermeasures now.)

As the alarm sounds, the defending army, composed to a man by Dweevils (excluding Max), move with speed and discipline. Three of the patrolling groups break off their routes and come to assist Max, totaling more than two dozen Munge Dweevils. The remaining patrol Dweevils congregate and continue their patrol, looking for more intruders. Further inside the base, scores of four-legged insects move together, some relieving those who are out looking for a main force (and the replacements subsequently going to further help Mad Max). However, the invaders also hear the sirens, and as they peek up from their concealed position, they know the jig is up. They spring from concealment, firing SMGs at whoever is near. One group pops up near the remaining patrols and fires, concentrating on the vehicle that Sparlectros himself is driving. Their bullets deal a lot of damage to the surrounding Munge Dweevils, who are stuck trying to get to close range, but Sparlectros activates the special function of this vehicle and sends a huge twister at the firing squad, scattering them and disorienting them long enough for the Munge Dweevils to close.
Meanwhile, Mad Max is faring better with the arrival of reinforcements, and, having killed half of the firing squad, halves that number again with two shots of his shotgun. The Munge Dweevils arrive and chase the flying green pikmin away from the truck, but they move toward the remaining red pikmin and begin spraying toxic gas, obscuring their vision and killing a few who remain. Then another group of hidden invaders, seeing their comrade's plight, rush over to help them. Just as they close, the defenders from the wall arrive. But these ones are different. These are Volt Dweevils, and as the green Pikmin swing their axes, they find the electricity flowing away to the newcomers, who absorb it quickly, then send that charge back out, stunning many and outright killing a few. By now, a second group of reinforcement, brandishing their own firearms, draw near to Max. They open fire, spewing burning rocks like meteors into the airborne ranks. Those who are still aware enough to fly are sorely pressed, and those who have fallen likely will not rise again, choking to death in the poisonous gases that cover the ground in that area.
Losses (so far): Imperial Army: 30 Assault Troopers 20 Aerial Troopers
Elemental Spiders: Damage to Whirlwind, Drag Truck, Mad Max, and Sparlectros. (Unspecified.) 30 Munge Dweevils 3 Flame Dweevils
(I'd still consider this the opening moves, but I'm beginning to realize that I need to make these things longer, or this battle will take forever.)

The two remaining sets of invaders each go to bolster the ranks of their comrades.
On Sparlectros' front, the invaders, still scattered, are no longer dazed, and they begin to assimilate with the group now charging in, once again forming the uninterrupted swarm of bullets that caused this much damage already. Their ranks seemed destined to be scattered though, as half a dozen Armor Dweevils come barreling through like a group of bowling balls. And under the continuing press, the firing squad retreats fully, Only occasionally turning to fire. The Aerial Troopers come with them, not even looking back.
Mad Max is facing a different situation. His Anode Dweevil reinforcements have done a number on the flying troops, but he lacks the final push that will send the ranks falling back, especially with the invader's fresh allies coming in. That help finally comes when a group of 5 Mud Dweevils pop out of the ground, having tunneled to Max position. Initially, their orders were to help him escape, but he countermands and orders them to use their elemental prowess to deal that telling blow. It comes, and these invaders fall back as well. Both groups reach the forest at the same time, and the leader of one looks at the other, and nods. Suddenly, the joined ranks stop and turn, opening unrelenting fire on their would-be pursuers. The aerial troops come out in full for the first time, flying above the majority of the projectiles being fired and swooping down to slash and hack at the back ranks. And with many of the Dweevils not on the field, the sudden turnabout becomes a rout. Though the invaders suffer casualties as well, once again the majority of the Dweevils must close to close range in order to attack. As the battle goes on, Sparlectros and Max begin to take hits, and several Aerial Troopers disable the Whirlwind as they had the Drag Truck.
Losses (so far): Imperial Army: 50 Assault Troopers 40 Aerial Troopers
Elemental Spiders: Whirlwind and Drag Truck (out of commission, somewhat damaged) Sparlectros and Mad Max (moderately hurt) 50 Munge Dweevils 20 Anode Dweevils 6 Flame Dweevils 10 Earth Dweevils 1 Mud Dweevil 1 Armor Dweevil

I don't think I'll be able to post my next set of plans today, so can we wait until tomorrow night before the battle continues?
I mean... I would never have followed the enemies outside of our walls...

(Yeah, I can wait. And sorry about the "don't follow them out" thing, I saw you had been on, but hadn't sent me a message, so I assumed you just didn't want to change anything about your plans.
On a somewhat related note, do you think we could get some decently detailed maps of the areas? It's a pain to try to figure out where everything in all of the bases is.)

I actually think that the rules say something about needing a base section if you have a natural base defense based on terrain.

I think pendragon was talking about a map of where my buildings are. I'll try doing one.

Made my map. Sincerely sorry if that would have changed anything for you blood, I didn't think a map would have been necessary.
I'll send my plans tomorrow as soon as possible.

As the two groups fought, Sparlectros began issuing orders, calling for a retreat to the safety of the large Electro Cannon. What followed was the strangest event in PNF-404 military history since Bregan D'aerthe and the Historic Army of Fun and Games "fought" over a gigantic megaphone. Just as the Dweevils began to retreat, the Imperial Troopers heard the pre-assigned signal to fall back. In the middle of a large-scale attack, both armies retreated without so much as a parting shot. The four Mud Dweevils on the field paired off and made tunnels to pull the incapacitated vehicles through. Sparlectros tried and failed to get the vehicles running, so the other troops simply pushed them. Meanwhile, the Imperial Assault Troopers had come back to the predetermined spot and joined their comrades, whirling around to face...nothing.

Sparlectros is confident in the positioning of his forces. He orders a general high alert, but otherwise maintains his current deployment. He hunkers down and waits for the assault.

Location: Wistful Wild Time: 0800 hours
Sparlectros begins to wonder if the enemy is even there. He cautiously sends out a scout. Five minutes later, the scout reports back. What he saw was a shallow trench, with a small stack of wood in front of it. It looks like the enemy simply packed up and left.
Battle Finish!
Losses: Imperial Army: 50 Assault Troopers 40 Aerial Troopers
Elemental Spiders: 10 day's damage to each vehicle. (...can you do day's worth of damage to Generals? If not, none was done, because I don't think they took enough to be fatal. If you can, 10 days each.) 50 Munge Dweevils 20 Anode Dweevils 10 Earth Dweevils 6 Flame Dweevils 1 Mud Dweevil 1 Armor Dweevil
Neither army lost equipment, because blood was consistent with recovering his own, but said nothing about taking Mal's, and nobody did enough to actually destroy anything.
