Yeah, but it's not wearing any. I stated both in the Dr. Claisen letter, and in the battle itself that it is simply made of solid lead.

Nope. Its actual body is lead, so it's lead all the way through, not just on the outside.

Lead is also more malleable than most materials. It takes more damage from blunt trauma than piercing.
Look at it this way: A pin goes in a bit, but sticks, and is hard to pull back out, meaning more work for less damage. A hammer will flatten and beat out lead, and doesn't stick, it does a lot more damage in blow, and is easier to use when it comes to repeated blows.
