Central qld town isolated as floodwaters rise from river to flood plains flooding homes, businesses

Hundreds of residents have been evacuated across Brisbane after a big, high-pressure ridge of water over the River Cremorne burst its banks into the city.
The river's crest hit the city overnight and rose up to more than 8.5 metres in some parts of the inner-city.
Floodwaters rose so high that emergency management buildings and hospitals were flooded in some areas, the City of Brisbane said on Twitter.
Aerial photographs showed the river bank at more than 11 kilometres away from the city's coast.
It was downgraded to a river in Queensland State Highway 1 and has since been diverted to its more easterly route to Crampton River.
Mayor Graham Quirk said the banks could easily cause a serious incident if they hit the roads.
Residents and businesses in several areas were forced to flee.
Sydney's City Hall has moved its offices from the site of a fatal flood to a flood-tolerant building because of the danger.
A City of Brisbane spokeswoman said it had sent flood protection crews and local police officers to help with rescue and recovery efforts.
"The river rose to such a height at 3:30pm local time that a small number of water tanks were overflowing and could not be secured and moved out of the way and into place, therefore the City's flood-resistant facility was temporarily closed," she said.
Bureau of Meteorology Deputy Forecaster Nick Chubb said there had been "major" flooding at an airport near Toowoomba where about 400 people were evacuated in anticipation of flood waters.
He warned people to take shelter immediately.
The main street near the airport was completely washed out as water from the River Cremorne rose to almost the sky.
The National Disaster Bureau issued an orange alert for parts of South and Central Queensland, and emergency services were alerted on four major regional highways.
Queensland Fire Service tweeted there was "major flooding" in the city and warnings of serious damage were being issued.
It said a flood watch had been declared in North Queensland, and that the high risk of flooding remained high.
Rural Council chief executive Tony Fergus said people needed to be aware of the risks in their areas as flood waters rose.
The South Coast is currently undergoing more heavy rains than normal.
About 140 firefighters were called to rescue floodwater survivors in St Mary's Lake on Friday night, while rescuers were battling another high tide that brought the lake to water levels twice its normal level.

A witness at the University of Texas at Austin said a gunman began shooting at students outside an apartment complex on Friday afternoon, as several others tried to stop him.
University officials said the shooting started when a gunman with a handgun and an air rifle stopped a car driven by his brother after shooting two people.
Two people were killed, including the gunman, according to emergency medical services officials who were treating the wounded on the scene.
The University of Texas said in a statement the shooting occurred as the brother of the suspect turned the rifle on himself.
"While responding to a campus building, a student received multiple gunshots and was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries," the statement said.
"A university security officer suffered a non-life threatening injury, and a university employee suffered a non-life threatening injury. The individual in custody is currently being treated by Texas Health Presbyterian."
The university issued a list of staff members and other students involved in the incident, which prompted questions about security at the campus.
In a statement, the university said the shooting was among two campus incidents on Thursday and Friday and "involved two people, but not one, who committed a violent act."
On Friday evening, witnesses told the Associated Press that several men with rifles had been inside an apartment complex parking lot outside the campus before the shooting.
University spokesman Michael Smith told ABC News one of the suspects — a man who identified himself as a student at the school — was in the car behind another man and the other suspect was walking inside the building.
The university's campus police chief told the Austin American-Statesman newspaper, "We don't have any reason to believe any particular person or group is responsible."
He went on: "If there was someone at the scene, we don't believe they were responsible."
A man at a bar said the first shooting seemed to stop in front of the building, and that the students who were in the car were taken to a hospital.
Students reported seeing people running and yelling for help.
